Description: High density lipoprotein (HDL) metabolism represents a major target for the development of therapies intended to reduce the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. HDL metabolism is complex and lower amount of HDL-C is often associated with increase cardiovascular risk. HDL can directly inhibit atherogenesis because it mediates reverse transport of cholesterol from atheroma foam cells to the liver. Scavenger receptor class B type 1 (SR-BI) is an HDL receptor, which is highly expressed in liver and steroidogenic tissues and mediates the selective uptake and recycling of the HDL particles. SR-BI-neutralizing antibody substantially reduced the selective uptake of HDL CE in hepatocyte. BioIntersect provides a very sensitive tool quantitate the amount of HDL uptake and its regulation using a proprietary fluorescent reagent by the cells.
