This gene lies in close proximity to thymidylate synthase gene on chromosome 18, and a corresponding pseudogene has been found on chromosome 22.

Tissue Specificity/Positive Control: Expressed in the epithelial cells of renal proximal tubules and stomach as well as hematopoietic cells in the bone marrow and spleen in the fetal tissues. In adult, expressed in epithelial cells of the renal proximal tubules and present in keratinocytes in the basal epidermal layer of epidermis.
Cellular Localization: Cytoplasm>cytosol. In epithelial cells infected with Neisseria gonorrhoeae, forms aggregates beneath bacterial microcolonies.
