Description: T cell receptor (TCR) V?2 is also known as V?4 in Heilig and Tonegawa's system. TCR V?2 bearing T lymphocytes make up a significant proportion of ?? TCR cells in late fetal and adult peripheral lymphoid tissues. TCR ?? T cells may play a role in immunological surveillance for stress-induced self-antigens. The frequency of V?2 expression in different strains varied from 12% to 54% in the TCR ?? repertoire. Variations in the levels of V?2+ cells are not associated with MHC haplotype. High V?2 expression is influenced by the TCR-? locus. Expanding V?2+ TCR?? cells in B6 mice overwhelmingly use a V?7+ ? chain except in the DBA/2 strain.
